The simplest act of kindness is a smile. Last Friday, on October 7, 2016, the world celebrates ‘World Smile Day ®’ to highlight one simple and positive act of human kindness.

About World Smile Day ®

In 1963, Harvey Ball, a commercial artist from Worcester, Massachusetts created the now world famous smiley face. The image went on to become the most recognizable symbol of good will and good cheer on the planet.

While the smiley symbol became well-known worldwide throughout the years, the original creator became concerned about the over-commercialization of the symbol and how its original meaning and intent had become lost. He then thought of World Smile Day ®, a day of smiles and kind acts throughout the world that is celebrated on the first Friday in October each year. The first ever World Smile Day ® was held in 1999 and has continued ever since.
